Like its relatives, this granulated pill woodlouse can snap into a protective ball when danger approaches, a defense mechanism so effective it's baffled predators for millennia. Often confused with pill millipedes despite being a crustacean, not an insect, these roly-polies demonstrate why naming things can be frustratingly complicated. One of many Armadillidium species thriving in damp habitats across temperate regions.
