This giant among bush-crickets is nearly three inches long and dressed in brilliant emerald green that makes it nearly invisible in foliage. But here's the kicker: it's incredibly loud. Males produce a deafening continuous song reaching 110 decibels—loud enough to damage hearing! They scrape specialized sound-producing organs at the base of their wings like a tiny, aggressive fiddle.

The sound serves as a love call, attracting females from impressive distances. Despite their size and noise, they're vegetarian, munching contentedly on leaves in European woodlands and gardens.
