If any centipede deserves the title of world traveler, it's this one. Found across southeastern Asia, the Indian Ocean, tropical and subtropical Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, and possibly the southern United States, this massive species appears almost everywhere warm. With at least six different common names—black flame, jungle, Vietnamese, and orange-legged centipede—reflecting its stunning color variations, it's genuinely cosmopolitan. Scientists remain uncertain whether its range is entirely natural or partly due to accidental human transport, making it a geographic mystery wrapped in an evolutionary riddle.
