This spectacular nymphalid butterfly is a shape-shifter, with two entirely different adult forms depending on the season. The wet-season form bristles with bold eyespots and intricate lines, while the dry-season form is far more muted and camouflaged. This remarkable seasonal dimorphism is elegant adaptation in action: when rain brings dense vegetation and hungry predators, bold eyespots confuse attackers, but in sparse dry seasons, plain coloration becomes the superior defense.
