The tawny cockroach was once confined to southern Europe and North Africa, but it's now established in North America, a sign of successful global dispersal through trade and agriculture. This species is one of the few cockroaches that actually thrive in cooler climates, having adapted to European winters where most roaches would freeze. Its ability to colonize temperate zones makes it an exceptionally hardy survivor. Watch for them in sheltered, cool spaces—gardens, caves, and storage areas where other roaches would perish.
