These tree-dwelling mosquitoes have found an unusual home that few others dare colonize: the hollow spaces and water pockets inside living trees. Unlike cousins that breed in standing water on the ground, they complete their entire life cycle in tiny tree holes, plant crevices, and rain-filled stumpsβ€”a strategy that makes them remarkably difficult to control with conventional mosquito management. Closely related to the notorious Asian tiger mosquito, they prefer the cooler climates of Europe and North Africa, quietly thriving in their arboreal nurseries where they're often completely overlooked.
