This fuzzy bruiser can regulate its own body temperature, allowing it to fly on cold days when other bees are grounded. But the real superpower is behavioral flexibility—when a nest loses its queen, these bees can actually adapt and keep the colony running without missing a beat.

They're excellent pollinators of crops like cranberries, raspberries, and potatoes, plus wildflowers. Sadly, this once-common bumblebee has crashed since the late 1990s, likely due to parasite infections and urban sprawl fragmenting habitat. A worrying decline for such a capable, adaptable species—a reminder that adaptability alone isn't enough when the world changes too fast.
