GenusTree Scorpions (Uroplectes)
This species is part of a diverse genus containing around 40 different lesser thick-tailed scorpion species, with South Africa as the diversity hotspot. These successful generalists thrive across the Afrotropical realm, equally comfortable on the ground or among trees, adapting to various habitats with impressive flexibility. The 'lesser' name distinguishes them from their heavier-bodied cousins. This concentration in southern Africa makes the region one of the planet's major scorpion biodiversity centers, yet these species remain relatively unknown outside scientific circles.
