GenusBumble Bees (Bombus)
Here's something radical: this Amazon bumblebee builds colonies on the ground, not underground. Instead of digging down like typical bumblebees, workers construct resilient surface nests on the rainforest floor with defenses against predators and humidity. Most bumblebees avoid humid climates, but this species evolved to thrive in itβmaking them perfectly adapted Amazon pollinators. Surface-level nest construction is extraordinarily unusual for the genus.
