This Mediterranean native has become one of the world's most invasive spider species, hitchhiking in cargo and shipping containers to nearly every continent. A nocturnal specialist that hunts pest insects like silverfish and cockroaches, it prefers dark shelters—caves, basements, and tunnels. Though infamous in pop culture, this spider is actually quite shy and rarely aggressive. It's more interested in your bugs than in you.
