These northern travelers sport a distinctive amber coloring and are tough enough to thrive where most other bees can't survive—from Alaska and Canada down through the northern and eastern United States.
Bumblebees are uniquely adapted to cool climates. Their thick, fuzzy bodies keep them warm, and they're one of the few bee groups that can forage in cool, cloudy conditions. While other bees sit idle on chilly mornings, these cold-hardy creatures keep working, making them essential pollinators in northern regions where the season is short and warm days are precious.
