Brand new to science! This species was formally described in just 2024, splitting away from its closest relative and establishing its own identity. Discovered in Arizona's Pima County, it represents a discovery so recent that many naturalists don't even know it exists as a separate species yet. This is what modern taxonomy looks likeβ€”new species are still being revealed and formally catalogued by scientists every year. The tiger mantis earned its striking name from its bold body patterns.
